ANN WROE, co-author of "The Economist Book of Obituaries" discusses the thrills, pitfalls and rewards of obituary writing with MARILYN JOHNSON, who studies obituary writers in "The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries." DANIEL OKRENT, the first Public Editor for The New York Times and creator of the Rotisserie League Baseball, turns to obit page every day. to see who has died, how they lived, and how old they were. Wroe says, "It is impossible to write obituaries for a living and not be drawn into musings on life and death." For her, each obituary is "a progress report on a life that continues, somehow...elsewhere."
